Track our progress on this dashboard and learn more about the upcoming and deployed cleanup solutions Our goal is to reduce floating plastic by 90% by 2040. According to our research, about 80% of riverine plastic pollution stems from 1000 rivers. To effectively clean up the oceans, we need to both clean up the plastic already in the ocean and intercept plastic on its way through rivers.

Plastic removed by ocean and river systems

More info

We named our company "The Ocean Cleanup" because we believe that the best way to clean up the ocean is to prevent plastic from entering it in the first place. That's why we've developed a system of floating barriers that collect plastic from rivers before it can reach the ocean.

That system is called an "Interceptor", and it's already in use in rivers around the world!
