Interceptor 004 was built in the Netherlands so we could efficiently test the design near our HQ; it is also the same system used to [unveil our river technology](https://theoceancleanup.com/updates/the-ocean-cleanup-unveils-plan-to-address-the-main-source-of-ocean-plastic-pollution-rivers/ "https://theoceancleanup.com/updates/the-ocean-cleanup-unveils-plan-to-address-the-main-source-of-ocean-plastic-pollution-rivers/") to the world in October 2019. Its intended destination was much further away, namely the Dominican Republic’s Rio Ozama. The Ministry of the Presidency of the Dominican Republic (including the prime minister himself), the UNDP, and the Embassy of the Netherlands facilitated arrangements for the Interceptor to receive all necessary support. The road to installment was a bumpy one for Interceptor 004. The COVID-19 pandemic delayed the process in 2020 and once installed, it was impacted by a tropical storm in August 2020.
